On Kings

This came from a co-worker today (some alterations to the text to protect privacy):

I just talked to my friend who teaches intro to Humanities online. They start from the beginning with Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Renaissance…and move forward through the period timelines. The first assignment was to do a powerpoint presentation on a person or place from Ancient Egypt: examples could be King Tut, Cleopatra, the ancient pyramids…

He opened up the powerpoint from a student who choose to do hers on Elvis Presley.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry?

Yarn and Knitting Plans

Although I don't have much time to knit these days, I do have plans.

The souvenir yarn from Santa Fe and San Francisco are pairing up nicely with some green that I had. The plan: Color Affection.

Not my usual colors, but such a happy combo. (Spud & Chloe from Needlework Unlimited, Shibui from Tutto in Santa Fe, Little Red Bicycle from Princess Animal in San Francisco)

I also picked up this one in San Francisco, for something more subdued.

SFO Misc.

Girl-child and I are back from San Francisco. We had a wonderful time celebrating her graduation from the U of M.

We were surprised that the bridge isn't visible from everywhere - like the Eiffel Tower. Seeing it from the water is best.

It's cool from underneath too.

We were very fortunate with the weather.

Alcatraz looks rather ominous from the water.

We took a few cable cars. I'd love to learn more about how they work.

There was an exhibit of Jean Paul Gaultier clothes at the deYoung museum in Golden Gate Park. It was amazing.

There are amazing things spread throughout the city.

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is a wonderful place to hang out.

Coit Tower has an interesting history - it's on top of Telegraph Hill (which we climbed, thankyouverymuch).

It's full of Depression-era (read: Communist) murals.

e

The hill plus the tower make for a very high perch.

This is the gal behind the tower - she liked to (scandalously) dress in men's clothing and she volunteered with the fire fighters. You have to lover her.

Ironically, we saw a four alarm fire down at the wharf while we were at the top of the tower.

Chinatown was very interesting too. We had a charming young man with a mohawk for our tour guide. The mohawk was handy because it made him very easy to find.

This was taken from within a Taoist temple. The picture may have been taken illegally (sorry!)

We ate good food there.

I loved the eclectic nature of the city.

And the water.

And, of course, the flowers.

Girl-child nearly killed me with all the walking, but it was worth it.
