Homeless Sunday

Boy-child and I were unable to go home Sunday due to an open house. We thought about going to a movie, but ended up at Red Hot Art and MIA instead.

My apologies, Sarah, as I seem to have been so out of sorts I did not take a picture of you and Adam. Next time.

This car was parked in front of us:

There were monsters.

We did not go to the Rembrant exhibit - just wandered the modern section at MIA.

I hope somebody buys this house soon as I am sick to death of vacuuming, sweeping, and having nothing on the counters in the kitchen :-P

Sporadic Summer and Travel Knitting

There has been knitting. This pair of fingerless mitts is for Auntie. She saw the pair I'd made for Holly* back in 2011 and wanted something similar. Except blue. I made them long so that the top cuff folds down because I find that I want a little extra length sometimes on colder days. I hope it works.

A chemo cap has to be made post-haste, so I got some Rowan Calmer (the best for chemo caps) and started the lace edged pattern that is my personal favorite for this purpose; the lace edge gives it a feminine touch, I think, which I assume is nice when you don't have hair. The color is actually a baby blue. It was quite a hit at Urban Knitters on Saturday - here's the pattern. You can find the yarn at Needlework Unlimited (and other places).

Finally, this is the "Not My Usual Colors" Color Affection. I started it on my work trip to Rapid City and Orlando. The orange is souvenir yarn from San Francisco, the multi is from Santa Fe, and the green (barely visible here, I just added that in) from NU, so it's a very well traveled piece of fabric. I'm not sure I'll be able to wear it, given the colors, but it is very sunshine-y and happy to work with, so I'm enjoying that aspect of it. Perhaps I'll give it away when I'm done.

That's all I've got. The house is on the market - there's an open today. I'm very sick of cleaning (cuts into my knitting time). A condo I'm interested in is back on the market so I hope to look at it next week. Wish me luck.

Campy Camp

Girl-child is at camp where she is a counselor. She talked me into helping this year so I went and taught knitting for an hour. It was quite intense. I do believe we piqued the interest of a few campers though, which is what it's all about.

While there, I snapped a few pictures of the decor. The Bloggess would love this place (and btw, did you know she's coming to town? August 10th, B&N at the Galleria). The taxidermied pieces are all kind of falling apart (I know Jenny would appreciate that fact).

Note the awesome hula hoops, the artwork, and the knitting supplies. Nothing in any order because, as I believe I have mentioned before, the Blogger app for iPad is pathetic.

Pretty, Yummy Food

Girl-child takes great food photos, and while I don't seem to have the knack for it she has, I am working at improving.

Of course, it's the people who prepare the food who are the real artists.

Look Up, Look Down

The Kat asks a good question - how can there be no bugs at this resort?

Sometimes we don't want to know the answer, me thinks...

Disney

A Disney ad from many years ago said:

"Todavia hay un pais en el mundo donde la gente es feliz: Disneylandia."

I think it's probably true; everyone here is happy, and it is its own country.

Although any bed would have looked good when I got in after 1am Tuesday night.

The flowers are lovely.

It looks great in the morning mist (and there's a beach in the middle of Florida - did you notice?)

It is, of course, hot and humid and sometimes hazy.

I'm in the resort with a "Mexican" theme.

It's lovely at night too.

Rapid Sunday

Rapid City has a new park/central square that everyone loves - especially the children on a hot Sunday.

House and Stuff

Boy-child and I have been very, very busy getting the house ready to put it on the market. On Thursday the photographer came, so everything had to be empty and clean. We are not good at empty or clean, but we did it.

I am leaving town for the week (work - Rapid City and Orlando) so Boy-child gets to play house and mess things up a bit. As long as he cleans them up when I get back.

Last night I went to Drunken Knit Night, which is always fun. The Sci-Fi folks just had their convention, so there was a lot of talk about that, and a friend just sold her house, so we compared notes about the ordeal of getting a house ready for market. It was fun, as always.

While waiting for the 21 bus I saw this car go by:

I worked on Auntie's mittens last night - it's the only thing I have going right now (although I plan to start Color Affection on my trip this week). The second mitt has a black cuff, blue stripe hand and will have black ribbing at the top. I made them kind of long so that the contrasting ribbing can be cuffed at the top too.

This Trumpet Vine has finally flowered. When I told Boy-child that I'd been waiting for five years for it to flower, he told me I was deranged. I think he said that no one waits five years for a flower. I beg to differ. He's too young still to understand that some things are worth waiting for (and I'm not talking just flowers here either).

Truth be told, I was beginning to think I had purchased the wrong thing. I'm glad it's bloomed before I move out.

Hot

It's been insufferably hot for about ten days, but tonight it rained, and cooled off about 20 degrees to a "delightfully" cool 80 degrees...

In the meantime, Boy-child's Back to School socks have been finished, a pair of mittens have been cast on for Auntie, and the harvest at the farm now includes cilantro, tomatoes and today the first zucchini...

And I almost forgot, the word of the week is vituperative: vi·tu·per·a·tive/vəˈt(y)o͞opəˌrātiv/

Portrait

Have I ever mentioned that Girl-child is the only person who can take portraits of me? She always manages to capture who I am in photos.
