Holiday Knitting

I don't usually get pulled in to the holiday knitting thing, but this year I kind of did. Girl-child's birthday/Christmas sweater is almost done. Yes, I have to weave in the ends and sew on the buttons.

It's really a cherry red. Some of the detail photos give it an orange hue but that is not accurate at all.  Can't say I'm thrilled with the sweater but it's ok.

Next picture of it will show her wearing it.

I've also got a pair of popover mittens for her for Christmas. I made them on size zero needles. Don't think I'll do that again any time soon.

I leave for the cruise a week from Friday. Can't wait!  This year's knitting mojo has not been particularly good.  I'm hoping the cruise turns that around.

Birthday Season

Did I mention that Girl-child had a birthday this week?

I found the perfect cracker-card for her (It was quite loud):

It came with a mask:

My Christmas cactus is beautiful this week:

I love flowers.

Wonderful Weekend

I did manage to get to NYC Saturday to see the Magritte exhibit at MoMA. Met up with Rose the Gypsy and we also squeezed in a wonderful lunch at the cafe there.

Didn't have time to go to the Chagall exhibit. So sad, I'll have to go back!

No, it's not Magritte, it's Calder…but it's the only photo I took Saturday.

I learned an important lesson Saturday which was that just because I figured out mass transit and got around Manhattan last April does not mean I can go back without a map and wing it. Not yet.

Also, Friday night was the sixth anniversary celebration of Drunken Knit Night. I won a fabulous book for a door prize:

The only sad note: One of the founding members has a broken knee and was unable to attend :-(

Desperately Seeking a Mayor

So, my question is, Who are those 264 people who voted for Captain Jack Sparrow?

Also, how would it feel to get fewer votes than Captain Jack Sparrow?  Over half of the candidates got fewer than 264 votes.

Notice the list is so long I couldn't get everyone in on one screen shot.

Books and Art

I'm not sure how many of you remember that poster "Expose yourself to art" with the guy flashing a statue, but we tried doing a "Expose yourself to the library" theme for our conference last month.

The blizzard was so distracting I guess our theme didn't really get off the ground, but Boy-child was a good sport about it:

In the meantime I'm trying to decide which book to hand out next April - I've decided to participate in World Book Night. Right now I'm checking books out of the library to see which one I think will be best.  I'm thinking I'll hand them out on the light rail (but not too close to either end because of the library downtown and the bookstore at MOA).

Boy-child has given me an awful cold.  If I recover in time I plan to go to New York next Saturday to see a Chagall and a Matisse exhibit, and to have lunch with The Gypsy.  Fingers crossed.
