Pièce de Résistance

And finally, the prettiest hat in my collection, also by Rose the Gypsy:

Did I mention she's never one to under-do?  And it's reversible!

To be worn today since it's supposed to be snowing this afternoon :-(

Yarnover 2014

Yarnover has come and gone. Rose the Gypsy made it again this year ~ what fun we had!

The purple was won at Yarnover, the pink purchased there and the green/blue is from the Yarn Shop Hop that happened a couple of week ago.

I learned interesting stuff in my classes but mostly I worked on socks over the weekend.

Rose the Gypsy brought luxury yarns as gifts, which go well with what she brought last year and also with some of the gift yarn from the cruise last December.

Because I don't have enough yarn (the satchel is what I took to Yarnover for class supplies).

The stash-buster class with Melissa Leapman was inspiring even if I dumped the sweater idea and plan to make a hat from what I created in class.

More hostess gifts from Rose the Gypsy, because you can never have too many hand towels or pot holders.

Rose is the only person I know who can make a sock knitter feel like a slacker - she never goes half-way!

We went to the Matisse exhibit too.  Hopefully we'll see the one that's going to be at MoMA this fall/winter as a follow-up ;-)

Sun-kissed

You may recall that I found it funny last February to see swimming warnings at the frozen lake.

Today I was walking around Lake of the Isles where I saw thin ice signs:

That's a canoe or a kayak in the background.  It was that wonderful out today.

I think I need a new camera.  I don't know what those lines are doing in the photos :-(

After walking around the lake I came home and made my feet sandal-ready.  It's 70 degrees today.  Last Thursday the ground was covered in snow.  Gotta love this time of year.

Yes, I am an optimist.

And don't miss World Book Night this Wednesday.  I am a giver and I picked up my books last Thursday.  Actually, I'm going to miss it because I'm working late on Wednesday, but I'll be out on Lake Street Thursday night handing out books:

Only five more sleeps 'till Yarnover!

Weekend Activities

The weekend was fun.

Friday I was at Drunken Knit Night at Merlin's Rest.  The company is always good, and the beer.

Then, because I was having breakfast with a friend in Maple Grove (I know, crazy, and of course I got lost) I decided to pop into  Amazing Threads in Maple Grove .  I dragged said friend to Amazing Threads, where I encouraged her to take a class (she's within walking distance of Amazing Threads - what a wonderful shop!)  Then, because it was Shop-hop weekend I went over to Lila and Claudine's in Mahtomedi.  No, I didn't actually do the Shop-hop; I think this may be my new approach - to go to one shop I know and one that is new to me.

People have been telling me for years to go up to Lila and Claudine's. It is an amazingly fun shop.

As always, volunteering at Central Library in Minneapolis is a trip.  Yesterday there was a middle aged guy who was filling out a profile on Christian singles dot com.  I helped out while he was waiting for his friend to show up.  Apparently he needed his friend to help him decide what kind of lady he wanted to meet (I asked, "You need your friend to tell you what you want?!?!?")

Anyway, never a dull moment in the big city.

The rest of the weekend was spent immersed in the audio version of The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, which I see today has won the Pulitzer for fiction.  I also watched Where do We Go Now? which Girl-child suggested.  It was good, but not a comedy imho.

National Beer Day

Seriously - I got an email on this today through Mentalfloss

It's even verifiable on the authoritative Wikipedia!

And guess what?  All the snow from last Friday has melted - hallelujah.

I think I'll go celebrate - and have a beer ;-)

Happy April

Oh what a sorry state of affairs this morning!

On a brighter note, I'm calling this "Still Life With Matisse."

My goal is to find a purple robe and always have flowers so I can be the woman in the painting ;-)
