Spring Tales and Adventures

I must say I am enjoying springtime.  Nothing like a hellish winter to make a person appreciate hot, muggy weather.

Walks around the lakes have begun, planting of the balcony garden is pretty much done and adventure abounds in the big city.

The 21 bus is a never-ending cinema of the weird, the sad and the inspirational.  After walking to Longfellow Market for a few groceries I hopped on the bus for the return trip.  In my short ride I saw...

An East African woman who was covered, kind of.  She had on a head-scarf, a long skirt and a short sleeved t-shirt that not only showed her arms but also the full contours of her very pregnant self.

A Mexican family with a little girl who had on the coolest shoes ever.  Boy those Latinas know how to find good shoes.  The girl was probably about 5 years old so she's got a bright shoe future  :-D

A Native American man with a t-shirt on it that had an image of Oscar the Grouch (pirated, to be sure) and the slogan "I'm trashed" along with an image of an Absolut bottle on the back.  He was in sorry shape.  His companion was also in sorry shape.

A gaggle of gay hipsters.  God only knows why they were on the bus.  They moved out of the way so that the above mentioned trashed man and his companion could sit down.

A middle-class African American teenager with the most hilarious pair of banana-print shorts and also a banana-print hat.  I had a hard time not laughing at the sight of him.  Really.  I'm not sure how to describe the effect.

I'm going to try biking this summer too.  For real this time.  I think it's been over 25 years since I biked.  Wish me luck.  I'm headed for The Greenway now.

Mothers' Day

In the spirit of having holiday experiences (instead of buying more stuff) I spent the weekend with my kids. Lunch with Boy-child at Dupont Circle in D.C. on Saturday:

A hula hooping class with Girl-child, DIL and her mom on Sunday:

I did not visit my mom today, but only because I got bumped in D.C. on Saturday so had to spend the night. There's always tomorrow (which, since she doesn't know what day it is, really doesn't matter anyway).

Floor

So, Pato used to say I had a thing about floors, and I have to admit he had a point.

I'm going to rip out the carpet in the condo this summer and maybe get cork flooring.   I'm dragging my feet because it is going to be very expensive and a lot of work.

In the meantime, The Girls used leftover paint to prettify the floor in the upstairs of their house. They had ripped out the carpet too, and did this to the particle board sub-flooring.

It sure is tempting to do something like this. Except maybe I can't get away with as much as the twenty-something-hippy-lesbian-crowd can get away with.

Although it sure is tempting.  They are so clever!

Cool Dude

This guy on the bus just cracked me up, so I kinneared him.

Art in Bloom

I went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts again today - this time for Art in Bloom.  It was wonderful.

I wish I had been able to spend more time there, but a little time is better than none.  More photos are available on Instagram where I am sajorenna.
